What for?

I was in class today and we were talking about what we could do for a project due next week. We have to have a simple sketch done for a small block of wood for some art vending machine (don't ask, cause I don't get it either). I casually said that I suppose I could use one of my sketches that I have at home and this girl looked at me like I was crazy.
She said, "what are the sketches for?"
And I replied, "Just freetime drawings."
She seemed confused and to tell you the truth, it kind of confused me that a junior art student could not comprehend 'free-time drawings.' Do these people not draw in their freetime?! What is the point in getting a BFA? Even if she is doing graphics or layout, you can't be successful by living off of what you learned from class alone! Those are just teaching tools. Creativity comes from what you do in your free time!

On another note, I did some sketching this morning. I need to do some more right now, but I have to work on typography. So much to do. Will I ever have time to do what I love?

No figure drawing tonight :-( I'm still waiting to be contacted from that person who is trying to start the club. She must be busy with finals. I need to do some more sketching tonight after I finish more of my homework. I just hope I have to strength. Last night I passed out at like 11:30. Almost done with school for the semester!
